Look beyond the centre of the room.
A bright centre does not tell you how evenly the whole canopy is lit. Consider the edges, corners and spaces between fixtures when planning your layout.
Follow model-specific guidance.
Begin with the fixture’s recommended mounting instructions. The appropriate distance depends on its output, your crop and the light levels you want to achieve; one distance is not suitable for every setup.
Measure where the plants are.
Where available, use a suitable PAR meter to compare light readings at canopy level across several points. Keep the meter height consistent while checking the area.
Revisit placement as plants grow.
A growing canopy changes its distance from the light. Record the mounting height, dimmer setting and plant response, and make considered adjustments as the space develops.
